Dmitry Karpov was born in the city of Perm
in 1978. He began collecting and listening to music, courtesy of his
father, in the form of reel to reel tapes at the tender age of 3.

n 1992, having excelled in the piano, Dima
graduated from music school and went on to perform and compete at
various concerts in the city. His recital of Beethoven’s
“Moon Sonata” was so beautiful it was known to
reduce his audience to emotional tears.
Music wasn’t Dima’s only interest. In addition to
his musical education he went on to study Maths and Physics at
Perm’s School N16.
After 9th grade Dima left Perm to study at the Moscow State University
in the department of Educational Scientific Center of M.V.Lomonosov.
Here he studied as a physicist-soundman, specializing in musical
acoustics and focussing on the investigation into the sound of real
musical instruments and its synthesized analogues.
It was at this time his DJ carrer also begun to excel making his debut
on legendary radio station, 106, 8 fm with DJ Uho in 1998.
From this point onwards Dima begun to appear regulally at clubs
throughout Russia and abroad and was also getting recognition for his
studio production work.

DJ Spell (doubly was the participant
of TOP DJ 100 Russia
according to DJ.RU) – is one of the first Russian DJs who
breaks through to the world minimal, tech-house, techno stage. Such
“monsters” of nightclub culture as Richie Hawtin,
Dubfire (Deep Dish), Laurent Garnier, Satoshi Tomiie, Jamie Jones,
Claud VonStroke, Blackstrobe (Ivan Smagghe), Tiefschwarz and others
play Dima’s music on the large dance-floors.
Dima’s compatriots also paid attention to his music. Such
Russian DJs as Uho, Meshkov, B -Voice, Trapeznikov, Kubikov and Sanches
respond favorably or even play tracks by DJ Spell.
Germany (Minimood, Kompakt Distribution), England (Crosstown Rebels),
Japan (Mule Electronic), France (Mezzotinto), Denmark (Tic Tac Toe
Records), Netherlands (Manual Music), Italy (Evolution Recordings),
Spain (Gemini Recordings), USA (A Different Drum), Croatia (Diggarama)
– these are not all but just a few countries where his music
is producing and people buy it on vinyl and CDs. De-bug, the
iconic German magazine, also noticed DJ Spell’s talent and
published positive reviews of his releases.

Belorussia (Minsk, Brest, Gomel, Hrodna), Armenia (Erevan), South of
Russia (Krasnodar, Rostov,Sochi), North of Russia (Murmansk,
Nizhnevartovsk), Ural (Perm, Chelyabinsk, Nizhni Tagil), Volgograd,
Moscow region (Kolomna, Noginsk,Electrostal) and others.
Appeared on local radio stations and on TV. Took part in big
raves (40 thousand people).
On the radio: Station 106,8 FM, Megapolis FM, Deep Mix, RTS,
electronicmusic.fm and many others. Movies - "Dura" (Mosfilm)
– bit part as a Dj + Sound track to the scene in the night -
club.
